The pro snowboarder on his partnership with O’Neill, reggae music, and his favorite riding spots.
If you haven’t seen Jeremy Jones in action on the slopes, chances are you’ve spotted him in the awesome new snowboard movie The Art of Flight.  For the past couple decades this pro boarder has wedged his way into the spotlight not only for his impressive tricks, but also for his collaborations with O’Neill, his own line of snowboards, and his organization Protect Our Winters. Bottom line: this guy is making his mark everywhere. Liza Darwin got the lowdown from Jones below.

You’ve been involved with O’Neill for a couple years now. How did you first hook up with the brand? As a dedicated surfer from an early age, I was always a fan of O’Neill wetsuits. Then when I heard that O’Neill had created a snow division, I immediately contacted them and we started working together.  At the time (1999-2000), many brands weren’t supporting big mountain riders, but O’Neill immediately recognized what I was doing.
What’s the story behind your latest collection for O’Neill? I focus on quality long-lasting clothing that embraces cutting edge sustainable materials.
How exactly does the collaboration work? Where does most of your input lie? Being with the brand for so long I have established great relationship with the designers. Three years ago, we used that experience to design the full O’Neill Snow Jones Experience collection.  Each year, we continue to evolve the line from the added experience and time using the gear.
What inspired you to start Protect Our Winters? I started Protect Our Winters because I have seen definitive change in the mountains and the climate.  As riders in the mountains and on the high peaks winter after winter, we see the change right in front of us.  The issues are not going to solve themselves, and as a group, we need to come together and make changes so that future generations can enjoy the same experiences as we do.
If you weren’t a pro athlete, what would you be doing? I knew from an early age that one way or another, being in the mountains was going to be a major part of my life.  If I did not make it as a pro rider, I would have probably evolved into mountain guiding.
Where are your top 3 favorite places to ride? My home range of the Sierra Nevadas, Alaska, and the European Alps on a good Winter.
Favorite songs to listen to while riding…. Depending on my mood, it can range from Reggae to Heavy Metal to classical.
